Homemade Gobi 65 – Veg Recipe

Gobi 65 is a popular Indian snack, especially from South India, made with crispy, spiced cauliflower florets. It’s the perfect combination of crunchy texture and bold flavors, served as a starter or appetizer.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium cauliflower (gobi), cut into florets
  • 2 tbsp rice flour (for crispiness)
  • 2 tbsp corn flour
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional)
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (optional, for a softer texture)
  • Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Cauliflower:

  1. Cut the cauliflower into small, bite-sized florets. If the florets are large, break them into smaller pieces for even frying.
  2. Blanch the cauliflower florets in hot water with a pinch of salt for 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside to cool.

Prepare the Batter: 3. In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, corn flour, all-purpose flour, chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, cumin powder, and salt. 4. Add ginger-garlic paste, soy sauce, vinegar, and lemon juice. Add yogurt (if using) to make a thick batter that coats the florets well. 5. Mix well, adding a little water if needed to get a batter that’s not too runny but coats the cauliflower evenly.

Fry the Gobi: 6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. 7. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it’s well-coated, and gently drop it into the hot oil. 8. Fry the florets in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy (about 4-5 minutes). 9. Remove the fried cauliflower florets and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Garnish and Serve: 10. Once all the florets are fried, garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves. 11. Serve hot with a tangy dipping sauce or as is, perfect for a snack or appetizer.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Gobi 65 can be served with a side of mint chutney, tamarind sauce, or a cooling raita.
  • It pairs well with fried rice, biryani, or as a standalone appetizer.

Enjoy this crispy, flavorful Gobi 65, packed with spice and crunch, making it an irresistible treat for any occasion!
